How To Prevent Nails From Breaking/ Chip Off

Nail care is important to practice when you are trying to grow out your finger nails, or have just gotten a fabulous manicure. Breaking your nails is just too easy to do with every day life. Healthy nails needs lots of care and maintenance to keep them strong, healthy and beautiful.

  • The most important thing you can do to keep nails strong is to not use them as a tool. Don’t pick, open, poke, or scratch at anything with your nails. This can encourage the tips to break and peel.
  • Wear gloves when cleaning or doing house work. Many household chemicals are harsh on your nails and can cause them to peel. You should also wear gloves when gardening or doing other household tasks that may be hard on your nails and may cause damage to them.
  • Don’t bite your nails, and don’t peel off old nail polish. This will only cause them to become brittle and eventually get weak. This will result in your nails peeling or breaking. Avoid picking at your nails at all cost. If it’s a habit, chew on a straw instead.
  • Apply nail polish. A coat of nail polish, even clear polish, can strengthen the nail and seal it together. There are even types of nail polish created to strengthen your nails. As the polish starts to chip off, touch it up rather than using nail polish remover. If you do use polish remover, avoid types containing acetone, which dries out nails and causes peeling and breakage.
  • Moisturize your hands twice a day. Nails need moisturizer the same way your skin does. When moisturizing your hands, rub lotion into your nails. Reapply after washing your hands. It will strengthen and maintain nail growth.
  • Maintain a healthy diet full of vitamins. If your diet lacks protein and essential vitamins, your nails may become dry or brittle. If you suspect that your diet may be unbalanced and need help correcting it, consult a doctor and ask what you could do.

Hair Tangles

Hair Tangles

Hair tangles are basically when your hair is not lying neatly against each other but instead mixed up all over the place. Tangles can appear as hair that’s knotted around each other or hair that’s matted due to lack of combing.

Causes of Hair Tangles

Learning tangled hair solutions requires that you understand the causes of hair tangles in the first place.

Hair tangles are causes by not combing your hair regularly, washing with your hair piled on your head, letting the wind blow your hair all over, sleeping without hair protection and not using moisturizing, detangling hair products.

Fortunately, there are many things you can to do remove tangles should this happen to you occasionally or regularly.

Remove Tangles

If you want to remove tangles with the least amount of hair loss, you must have patience and the right tools.

  • If your hair is tangly while wet, you should take a wide-tooth comb and detangle your hair under the shower head.
  • For additional detangling, apply hair conditioner and detangle under the shower head. Detangling under the shower head is probably the most effective of all tangled hair solutions.
  • If your hair is already dry and you endure some tangles from wind or sleeping, take some hair serum and apply it to your hair. Then gently detangle with a wide-tooth comb section by section. Always remove tangles section by section.
  • If you tangle your hair while combing or brushing, don’t yank the comb or brush from your hair. Instead, carefully remove each individual hair strand by strand from the tool. Don’t try to reverse the direction of the comb or brush. This typically just causes more tangles.
  • If your hair is tangly due to using hair spray or other styling products, wet your hair first and detangle under the shower head. Detangling under the shower-head works for almost any type of hair tangles!

How To Pick the Perfect Foundation

Picking the perfect foundation for your skin can be daunting. Here’s how to go about it while shopping in a department store. Remember, you always want to test before you buy. This is why it’s best to get your foundations from department stores rather than from the makeup aisle at your local pharmacy or grocery store. If you do buy from a drugstore, make sure it has a liberal return policy (like Rite Aid).

Here’s How:

  1. Before you pick the formula, you need to find out the right formulation for your skin. If you’re oily, look for words like “oil-free,” “oil-control” or “mattifying” on the bottle. Got dry skin? Go for moisturizing foundations with “hydrating” or “moisture-rich” wording on the bottle. Foundations containing glycerin glide on easily. For combination skin, determine if you’re more oily or dry and go from there. Cream-to-powder bases work great for combination skin. Mineral foundations work well on all skin types, especially sensitive skin.
  2. Consider if you want a light or medium-coverage. If you have good skin, but want to even out a few ruddy areas, consider a light coverage. For women with really uneven skin tone or blemishes, consider a medium-coverage foundation. Some women swear by mineral foundations, so you might want to try these out as well.
  3. Show up to the makeup counter with a clean, fresh face. It’s OK to wear eye makeup or lipstick, even moisturizer on your face, but you don’t want to show up already wearing foundation.
  4. Select a few colors that seem close to your natural skin tone. Go for the yellow-based foundations, which look most natural on all skin tones. However, if you’re very fair, try a pink, cooler shade.
  5. Apply a stroke of up to three colors on a cheek (the inner wrist or hand aren’t the best spots, contrary to popular belief). The one that disappears is the right shade.
  6. Take a good, long look — near a window. Ask to borrow a hand mirror and stand near a doorway, or step outside, to see which foundation looks best in the natural light. The right shade is one that you can’t see because it blends in so well. If you are purchasing from a drugstore, take a couple bottles to a doorway, hold them up to your neck and see which one matches the best or if you have a favorite shade you want to match, match the colors of the bottles, never the swatch on the display.
  7. Once you’ve bought the foundation, take it home and try it out. If you don’t like it you can return it. If you’re buying from a drugstore, purchase from one with a liberal return policy (like Rite Aid).

Tips:

  1. Try the color out on your jawline, not your wrist or hand
  2. Remember to stand in a doorway or outside to see if the color matches
  3. A foundation with sunscreen is a safe bet, but you will still need to wear sunscreen under your foundation. Also considering skipping foundation and opting for a tinted moisturizer (Laura Mercier makes a great one) instead.
  4. Believe it or not, today foundation is totally optional. It’s healthier for your skin NOT to wear foundation daily. If you have blemishes or pimples, try strategically placed concealer instead. Or just wear the foundation on the parts that need it most, likely around your nose and eyes and on your chin. Just make sure to blend properly.
  5. Go for different looks for evening and day. A light foundation is perfect for work or weekend. While a sexy shimmer is great for evening.

Maintaining long healthy hair

Taking care of your hair is a daily task that must be done in order for your hair to remain healthy and attractive. However, the amount of time, effort and money you are willing to spend to achieve this depends on you and your personal hair demands and desires.

Do you want a simple style that is easy to manage and maintain? Do you want spend 2 hours each day styling your hair so, that you just look like you have stepped out of a salon? Do you want a completely new look or do you just simply want to add a bit of shine to your hair?

The following offer tips and secrets about how you can give your hair extra shine, how you can control frizzy hair and little tricks you can use to make your hair do what you want it to do.

How to get shiny hair

When you have shiny hair it means that you have healthy hair. If your hair is not looking as shiny as you would like it to, there are some tricks you apply to assist you in getting the shine you would like. For example, there are spray-on shine products available in beauty salons that can add an effective, temporary shine to your hair.

Regularly rinsing your hair in cold water at the end of your bath or shower helps create a long lasting shine.

Deep conditioning your hair can help keep it shiny and healthy. Olive oil is a great product for deep conditioning your hair. To do so warm up some olive oil in the microwave for a few seconds and apply it to dry hair, paying special attention to split ends. Leave it on for roughly 20 minutes and then wash it out. You can also dab a little on the ends of your hair as a leave in conditioner.

Here is an easy and cheap honey recipe that produces shiny hair:

Mix 1 teaspoon of honey with 4 cups of warm water (blonde haired people may wish to add a squeeze of lemon juice). After shampooing, pour the mixture through hair. Do not rinse. Dry as normal.

How to control frizzy hair

There are various products available in your local supermarkets and hair salons that can help tame and calm frizzy hair. The following are some little tips and tricks you can use to manage your hair and allow it to look its best.

•Before styling your hair apply a no-frizz product.

•When you blow dry your hair, direct the heat downwards so it smoothes the hair shaft.

•Make sure you get your hair trimmed regularly i.e. every 6-8 weeks this will help prevent and manage split ends. Split ends causes hair to frizz.

•Let your hair dry naturally whenever possible and avoid running your fingers through your hair until it is dried all the way.

•Try not to wash your hair everyday. Washing your hair everyday removes your hair’s natural oils.

•Use a hydrating shampoo and cream conditioner every other day.

•Deep condition your hair once a week with a deep hair conditioning mask.

•Keep a frizz control serum handy like in your hand bag or work desk and rub a few drops over your hair for a middle of the day shine.

How often do you need a haircut

No matter what type of hair you have you should get you hair cut or trimmed at least several times per year. However, how often depends on the style of your hair and the amount of money you can spend on hair cuts. Short hair will stay in its style for about 4 weeks. If you have medium length hair you should visit your hair dresser every 5 weeks and if you have long hair or are trying to grow it out you should get your hair trimmed or cut about every 6 weeks. Getting your hair trimmed will get rid of, or help avoid split ends.

Other than managing split ends’ getting a haircut does not have much to do with your hair’s health. Your hair’s health is based on your hair care routine and diet. Nevertheless, getting your hair cut from time to time is good for you, if not only for your hair. A new haircut or even a trim can make you and your head feel a lot better!

Brushing your hair

You may have heard the old saying “brush your hair with 100 strokes before bed for healthy hair”. In our present day and age the opposite is actually true. In fact, the less you brush your hair the better. People followed this beauty advice years and years ago when woman only washed their hair with soap once a month. If they did not brush their hair daily their hair would accumulate dead skin and oils, making their hair dirty and unattractive.

Now days when bathing and shampooing hair is a regular and daily routine, we do not need to spend so much time brushing our hair. Too much brushing can wear down the cuticle (the outer layer of the hair, causing damage). People with shoulder length or long hair should use a brush only when it is necessary. Instead of using a brush everyday, a wide tooth pick or comb helps gently break through tangles and helps prevent split ends.

Brushing your hair is important in terms of stimulating circulation on your scalp, which encourages healthy blood flow and hair growth. However, there is an alternative to stimulating your scalp in this way. A more effective option is a scalp massage. If done correctly, it does not affect the hair shaft, which is the downside of brushing. While massaging your scalp use essential oils such as thyme, rosemary or lavender.

10 Tips for a Healthy Diet

Experts agree the key to healthy eating is the time-tested advice of balance, variety and moderation. In short, that means eating a wide variety of foods without getting too many calories or too much of any one nutrient. These 10 tips can help you follow that advice while still enjoying the foods you eat.

  1. Eat a variety of nutrient-rich foods. You need more than 40 different nutrients for good health, and no single food supplies them all. Your daily food selection should include bread and other whole-grain products; fruits; vegetables; dairy products; and meat, poultry, fish and other protein foods. How much you should eat depends on your calorie needs. Use the Food Guide Pyramid and the Nutrition Facts panel on food labels as handy references.
  2. Enjoy plenty of whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Surveys show most Americans don’t eat enough of these foods. Do you eat 6-11 servings from the bread, rice, cereal and pasta group, 3 of which should be whole grains? Do you eat 2-4 servings of fruit and 3-5 servings of vegetables? If you don’t enjoy some of these at first, give them another chance. Look through cookbooks for tasty ways to prepare unfamiliar foods.
  3. Maintain a healthy weight. The weight that’s right for you depends on many factors including your sex, height, age and heredity. Excess body fat increases your chances for high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, some types of cancer and other illnesses. But being too thin can increase your risk for osteoporosis, menstrual irregularities and other health problems. If you’re constantly losing and regaining weight, a registered dietitian can help you develop sensible eating habits for successful weight management. Regular exercise is also important to maintaining a healthy weight.
  4. Eat moderate portions. If you keep portion sizes reasonable, it’s easier to eat the foods you want and stay healthy. Did you know the recommended serving of cooked meat is 3 ounces, similar in size to a deck of playing cards? A medium piece of fruit is 1 serving and a cup of pasta equals 2 servings. A pint of ice cream contains 4 servings. Refer to the Food Guide Pyramid for information on recommended serving sizes.
  5. Eat regular meals. Skipping meals can lead to out-of-control hunger, often resulting in overeating. When you’re very hungry, it’s also tempting to forget about good nutrition. Snacking between meals can help curb hunger, but don’t eat so much that your snack becomes an entire meal.
  6. Reduce, don’t eliminate certain foods. Most people eat for pleasure as well as nutrition. If your favorite foods are high in fat, salt or sugar, the key is moderating how much of these foods you eat and how often you eat them.
Identify major sources of these ingredients in your diet and make changes, if necessary. Adults who eat high-fat meats or whole-milk dairy products at every meal are probably eating too much fat. Use the Nutrition Facts panel on the food label to help balance your choices.
Choosing skim or low-fat dairy products and lean cuts of meat such as flank steak and beef round can reduce fat intake significantly.
If you love fried chicken, however, you don’t have to give it up. Just eat it less often. When dining out, share it with a friend, ask for a take-home bag or a smaller portion.
  7. Balance your food choices over time. Not every food has to be “perfect.” When eating a food high in fat, salt or sugar, select other foods that are low in these ingredients. If you miss out on any food group one day, make up for it the next. Your food choices over several days should fit together into a healthy pattern.
  8. Know your diet pitfalls. To improve your eating habits, you first have to know what’s wrong with them. Write down everything you eat for three days. Then check your list according to the rest of these tips. Do you add a lot of butter, creamy sauces or salad dressings? Rather than eliminating these foods, just cut back your portions. Are you getting enough fruits and vegetables? If not, you may be missing out on vital nutrients.
  9. Make changes gradually. Just as there are no “superfoods” or easy answers to a healthy diet, don’t expect to totally revamp your eating habits overnight. Changing too much, too fast can get in the way of success. Begin to remedy excesses or deficiencies with modest changes that can add up to positive, lifelong eating habits. For instance, if you don’t like the taste of skim milk, try low-fat. Eventually you may find you like skim, too.
  10. Remember, foods are not good or bad. Select foods based on your total eating patterns, not whether any individual food is “good” or “bad.” Don’t feel guilty if you love foods such as apple pie, potato chips, candy bars or ice cream. Eat them in moderation, and choose other foods to provide the balance and variety that are vital to good health.

How To Make Eye Area Look Bigger With Makeup

Your daily use make-up material can work wonders for you! Here are some techniques to help you achieve that glamorous eye look!

Making Eyes Look Bigger With Makeup

  • Start by cleaning your face with a mild face wash.
  • Apply concealer around and under your eyes. This will help you conceal the dark circles. Dark circles will give you sunken-eye look and will make your eyes appear smaller.
  • Apply creamy white eyeliner on the bottom inner part of your eye and on the tear ducts.
  • Next, blend the tear ducts with the rest of the skin. This will work with all skin types and tones.
  • Apply black eyeliner on the bottom of your eyes just under the white eyeliner and extend the line to the corners.
  • Now, apply black eyeliner on the top of your eyes and ensure that the center of the eyeliner is thicker. Extend the lines to the corner so that it meets the bottom line. This will make the eyes appear bigger and rounder.
  • Using a swab smudge the eyeliner around the eyes. This will not make your eyeliner appear as a distinct line. However, make sure that the eyeliner you are using is smudge-able.
  • Doing this will give a slight smoky look to your eyes and make your eyes look bigger.
  • Apply mascara on your top lashes and your eyes are all set! Before applying mascara always, curl your lashes. You can curl your lashes after applying mascara also but make sure that your mascara has dried.

Tips And Tricks

  • Light shade eye shadows like white, bisque, and ivory hues make the eyes look large. When applying eye shadow, try using single color rather than two or three shades of eye shadow. Although usage of multiple eye shadows complete the layered look and add definition to eyes, a single shade will actually make your eyes look bigger. Though light shades are recommended, you can also experiment with pastel shades.
  • Highlighting creams are another trick, which can be used to draw attention to your eyes. You can apply highlighting creams to the upper eyelid and up to the brow bones to make your eyes look bigger. As the highlighting creams have high sheen, they should be applied with a light hand. Just a bit of cream is enough to do the trick!
  • Eyelashes can make a big difference to your eye makeup. Curling your eyelashes can do the trick for most. However, you can also experiment with single false eyelashes, which can be applied to the outer corner of the eyes.
  • It’s important to thread or wax your eyebrows regularly. If the eyebrows are left bushy and overgrown, the entire eye area looks shrunken. So, for flattering eyebrows shape, it’s essential to groom your eyebrows.

How to Apply a Smooth Makeup Foundation

Here is how to apply a smooth flawless makeup base. Follow the method to have an even skin tone after the application of your regular makeup.

Instructions

  • Wash your face with cold water and use an anti bacterial face wash or soap to remove any remains of dirt. Then gently pat the skin dry with a tissue paper.
  • 2

Apply any light moisturizer that doesn’t irritate the skin. Gently rub it in a circular motion over the face and neck. Now use a soft tissue paper or cotton ball to remove the excessive moisturizer. This will give you a fresher look and feel and you will get rid of unwanted oils that cause pimples.

  • 3

Apply a darker liquid/stick foundation to cover the under eye shadows or use a concealer if you have one. Do this to cover any other pigmentation and spots on the face and neck. If you are using a stick foundation then slightly dip your sponge in cold water and use the dank sponge to blend the makeup base. Don’t forget to thoroughly rinse the sponge and remove extra water from it before application. Remember! We do not want a soppy, drippy sponge.

  • 4

Now use your regular makeup foundation. If you are using a liquid base then use a dry sponge to blend it. Liquid base should always be taken in small quantity. Use the tip of your finger and place tiny spots of liquid foundation all over your face and neck. Then blend it with a dry sponge. Use a damp sponge to apply stick base if you are using that.

  • 5

After the fourth step, apply a light layer of face powder over your face and neck. Let it settle for 15 minutes. During this time everything will harmoniously get even with your skin and give it a smooth finish.
